hp envy 5544
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have had an ongoing problem with my HP Envy 5544 recognising replacement Instant Ink cartridges and it very nearly led to me having to buy a new printer.

A couple of weeks ago the tricolour cartridge ink level was low and the printer recommended replacing it.  I replaced the cartridge with a new Instant Ink cartridge but the printer did not recognise it.  With the help of HP Support I went through all the steps suggested in the help guide twice to no avail.  I was then sent a replacement (thank you very much).

I then inserted this cartridge and the printer immediately recommended replacing it.  It was not found the first time I went through all the steps and was "unknown" the second time.

I got completely fed up last night and left it alone,  During the night we had a short power cut and this morning the new "unkown" cartridge is now showing as tricolour but is only 20% full.  I have only printed the calibration page.

Can anyone explain why this happened? And what happened to the 80% of the ink in the last cartridge installed?
