Someone I know was going to throw an all-in-one printer away after not being able to print anymore. Since I don't even have a scanner, I asked if I could get it and I did. I managed to scan directly from printer, using the buttons around display on the printer. Since I need to scan the whole page and I can't choose the scanning more, I'd love to do it through the software.

I installed the software, HP Smart, and it required me to make an account (which me asking this question proves I have one). After some time the interface showed, but clicking on the scan "button" displayed a message that I need to add the printer first (in the software) ; I tried to do so but it got stuck after I clicked continue, following a message that the printer is connected, as may be seen in

and although I can click on continue again, nothing else seem to be responsive, even trying to close the software through the taskbar failed. I tried again, but that time I clicked on Continue once, and after some time opened the Task Manager to see what was going on withe the software, and it was hogging ~30% CPU which may be seen in

Is there a way to get my handed-down printer to scan through the software, and if so how?

Thank you kindly
