ScanJet Pro 2500 f1
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

I am running MacOS 11.4 on an M1 MacBook and I am trying to connect it to a newly purchased ScanJet Pro 2500 f1; the two are connected via a USB-Cable and a USB to USB-C adaptor (have tried Anker's 7 in 1 and Apple's dongles, to the same effect). I've tried multiple ways to connect the scanner, but the MacBook does not recognize it:

• HP Smart for Desktop does not see the scanner

• Image Capture does not see the scanner

• System Preferences ... Printers & Scanners does not see the scanner (even if I press the plus button to add a printer/scanner)

Restarting the Mac, restarting the scanner, unplugging and replugging the USB has no effect.

About this Mac ... System Report ... USB does show the scanner as follows:

HP ScanJet Pro 2500 f1:

  Product ID: 0x6005

  Vendor ID: 0x03f0  (Hewlett Packard)

  Version: 0.02

  Serial Number: [Personal Information Removed]

  Speed: Up to 480 Mb/s

  Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard

  Location ID: 0x00110000 / 4

  Current Available (mA): 500

  Extra Operating Current (mA): 0

I'm at a loss and am ready to return this scanner for a refund. Any suggestions on how to connect it?
