HP Smart Tank Plus 651
Chrome OS

The printer is the brand new HP Smart Tank Plus 651.  What I was hoping is that it would represent HP's most updated internal software that would be more compatible using a USB cable with a Chromebook/Chromebox.   The Chromebox is a new CTL CBx1 Chromebox, but that doesn't seem to matter as my older Acer Chromebook will print (I can do more specific testing with the Acer if requested),  *** Ethernet cable with internet connected. I select (the users) Google Account and signed-in.   From a web page,  select Print. Change from Save As PDF to See More. See the printer, HP Smart Tank Plus 650 series (USB). Click to select and get red message "Error setting up printer." Select Manage, and under Add Printer, see HP Smart Tank Plus 650 series (USB) and Save button. Hit Save button, and get pop-up black box at bottom of page, and get "HP Smart Tank Plus 650 series (USB) is no longer available."  Note:  SAME problem in Guest Mode if the Ethernet cable is connected. *** DISCONNECT  the Ethernet cable.   I sign-in to the users Google Account and it detected the HP Smart Tank Plus 650 series (USB) immediately with a popup message confirmation.  I went to Print. The printer destination is Save As PDF. I click on.... See More. I see the printer, HP Smart Tank Plus 650 series (USB). I clicked to select and the printing destination changes to HP Smart Tank Plus 650. I select  "See More", then "Manage". I see the the HP Smart Tank Plus 650 series (USB) and I click "SAVE". I was able to save the printer profile and I could print. I then turned on the Ethernet connection and I could still print a web page.  THIS IS WHAT I NEEDED TO DO TO INSTALL THE PRINTER SUCCESSFULLY in a signed-in Google profile on the CTL CBx1. *** Now I can log into my installed signed-in Google profile and print.  You can log into your Google account on the CTL Chromebox with the Ethernet ON, and you can Print. You can print documents more than one page (2+), they will print, and you will get the second pop-up that it printed successfully. BUT, if you print one (1) page documents, the printer status popup will sometimes linger on the screen and never go away. You never get the second pop-up that it printed successfully. I have tried X out the printer status popup in hopes that I see the second popup that it printed successfully. If you don't get the second popup that it printed successfully, any new printing attempts never make it to the printer. You have to log-out of your Google Account and log-back IN.  *** Guest Mode still has the problem that if you have the Ethernet cable connected with internet, it conflicts with the printer, BUT if Ethernet is disconnected or OFF, and you start Guest Mode, then it will detect the HP Smart Tank Plus 650 series (USB) immediately with a popup message confirmation.  You can go to Print and change over to the HP Smart Tank Plus 650 series (USB) and you can print just fine.  As soon as you connect or  turn-on live Ethernet, the ability to print STOPS, but only in Guest Mode. *** There seems to be a conflict between USB and Ethernet, which is something I hope HP and Google can resolve, so Guest Mode will work.  Also the problems where you don't get the print confirmation sometimes, which requires you to log-out, log back-in  to get printing to work again.
