Scanjet 5590
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi. Every time I use the TMS to scan slides, it completes the first scan then hangs on "Preparing to Scan" when trying to carry out a second scan. I've tried various solutions suggested in the forum but none of them work. The only way I can carry out another scan is to pull the plug from the scanner and reinsert it 2 minutes later after closing the scanning program on my laptop. I've deleted the device from my laptop and reinstalled it. I've deleted the software and drivers for the scanner and these have no effect. I've tried the HP Print ans Scan Doctor but can't get any further than the first page as it will not detect the scanner. I've also followed all the instructions on retrying the detection with no effect. Although the HP Print and Scan Doctor doesn't 'see' the scanner it shows up in the Windows Installed Devices in the Control Panel. I sometimes get a message telling me that I need to insert the HPProductAssistant. but can't find this on my computer. I've also tried to install the .msi by locating it in 7zS0XXX, without success. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks to all for listening.
