HP Recommended
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Deskjet 9800 is connected to a Windows 10/64 bit machine through a third-party Ethernet-to-USB print server. Windows is configured to access the print server using standard IP port on a specified IP address (of the print server) at port 9100, raw protocol. The HP 9800 driver was selected at printer install time.

PROBLEM:

If under Printing Preferences dialog, tab Finishing, the option Print Preview [] Show Print Preview is enabled (as desired), the print preview window does appear at the appropriate point in time, however, as soon as the print preview window appears, but before any user interaction at all, the print server gets contacted (TCP open then close), which causes the print server to emit to the printer a message saying “The print server cannot receive any printing data.” This causes a page and ink to be wasted.

Can I suppress this unintended/spurious contact from the client to the print server which is causing waste of ink/paper (as this happens on each print attempt, regardless of whether the user proceeds to print or cancel the print job in response to the print preview window)?

I already can simply disable print preview, but this does away with an important feature (given that this is a wide-format printer and I wish to minimize waste of ink/paper.)

Thank you.
