Officejet Pro 8600 Plus AIO
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have not been able to utilize the wireless ability of my printer for several years now with Windows 10.  I ended up having to do 2 things to keep using it.

1. Find the driver before the last one released and use it OR, Only use the driver that Windows 10 installs on it's own with NO install of drivers from hp at all. Then, do Not let hp Support Assistant install upgrades or it'll stop working again.

2. I can Only use the printer via USB cable to the computer as it will not function as a part of my wireless network anymore. The drivers that had been in use with Win7 worked fine when left alone back when windows upgraded to Win10 but, no hp-supplied driver after that worked right and it was Never found even in hundreds of attempts.

I'm not allowing anything to upgrade my printer drivers and always ignore hp's automated upgrade recommendations. I may not be able to use it fully (wirelessly) but, it's still functioning as a stand-alone, wired printer/scanner/fax.

I'm posting this now because too many others have had issues and not known what to do. The other suggestions, diagnostics, checking routers and all.. I've done that and it doesn't matter.. the latest drivers from hp for the 8600 are incapable of recognizing the printer.. even if you find it's IP and can log right into it in your browser.. the installer will tell you it's unable to find it.

Best bet is probably to clear out any drivers you've installed for it and then let Windows install compatible drivers with it connected to a computer with a usb cable. And, then once it's working.. ignore any further advice to upgrade the drivers.

I really wish attention had been given during the timeframe when it should have been addressed but, those days are long gone now and if you want to keep using it.. that's what you have to do.  Mine's still a perfectly able printer and I do not want to have to buy one with a crappier, smaller screen just because of a software thing.

btw, I did buy another, lesser hp printer during a period when I couldn't find ink at a reasonable price.. so, it's back in it's box until the next time there's a ink price debacle.

Anyway, you should be able to use it as a wired printer if you do what I've said. Sorry you can't use it as part of a network anymore but, that's how it is now.  Don't upgrade drivers once it's functioning or it'll break again.

Best wishes to all.
