“Cold” = HP Laserjet 4 (LJ4) off for one hour.
When the cold LJ4 is switched on it behaves normally and prints. If I turn it off then immediately back on, Error Code 14, NO EP CART, is displayed and it will not print. Let the LJ4 go cold again and this behavior repeats 100% of the time. I have also 1)quickly cycled the LJ4 on and off 10 times and the Code 14 remains, and 2) printed for over 6 continuous hours when the Code 14 is not displayed.
I have cleaned contacts, reseated the toner cartridge, looked at suggestion by Moe on FixYourOwnPrinter (but my LJ4 does not have a pot adjustment on the side). The toner cartridge works without problem in my LJ4+ printer.
So what is it that interferes with the print ready status as a result of switching on and off?
