HP Color LaserJet CP2025 Printer series
Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit)

Today I purchased two 304A toner cartridges and I thought it odd they did not have a toner dam strip.  When I installed them into the printer the printer recognized them as genuine HP products, but the printer thought there was no toner and would stop after printing 15 pages or so.  I would open the toner door and shut it and it would print 15 +/- pages more.  I could do this forever, but took them back to Staples and replaced them with two new cartridges.  Alas, no toner dam strips in these either and the printer registers zero toner in the cartridges.  However it is clear there is toner because it is printing blue and red (replaced magenta and cyan).  Has HP stopped installing the toner dam strips?  Or did the Staples store near me get a bad batch of defective HP toner cartridges?

What do I do in the mean time
