I am having the same issue when printing duplex and plain paper settings. The odd number pages (generally the first side of any duplex printed page) have smudged characters near the margins on the bottom of the page. 

 

I can solve this by specifying that my paper is gloss. But it isn't. I'm using a Xerox paper product (premium multipurpose) that is 24 lb weight.

 

I've used it with my former HP printer (8620) without issues.

 

What gives?
