Hello, All -

This is a different set of symptoms from those I've had before, but the result is the same - I can only print (even in black and white) when in Single Cartridge Mode, using only the colour cartridge.   Having wrestled with this problem for far too long, I finally decided to purchase another genuine HP 61 black cartridge, and installed that.

When I first put it in, I got a message saying, "Genuine HP Cartridge", and I thought I was finally in the clear.   I didn't have time, at that point, to try a test print, but when I tried later to print a B/W document, I got the usual, "Incompatible Cartridge" message.   It's been suggested that I may have a hardware problem with the printer, but that doesn't make sense to me, since the new cartridge was immediately recognized as genuine HP, and only later did I get error messages.

I've been through every suggested fix I can find - driver updates, cleaning cartridge contacts, removing cartridges and unplugging from the wall - the whole bit.   This completely inconsistent behaviour is beyond frustrating.

If anyone has a new suggestion, I'd be grateful, but I'm not prepared to accept, "You MAY have a hardware problem."    So I should pay to have it serviced, or throw the printer out because I MAY have a hardware problem?   Need a more confident diagnosis that that....
