HP Photosmart 1215
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

I have recently resurrected my old HP Photosmart 1215 in order to print out my daughter's school work while she is home during the pandemic. I miraculously got it to work using the generic print driver on my Mac that is running OS X 10.11 El Capitan. However, I cannot get it to print color using this driver, only black & white. I got a new color cartridge and the test page prints fine, but I cannot print anything from my computer in color. I don't normally do enough printing to justify buying a new printer and honestly it seems wasteful to get rid of a printer that technically works (and that I just bought new ink cartridges for!). I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer a couple times. I have the CD for the original driver, but my computer can't run the install program since I upgraded to OS X 10.11. I was hoping that maybe there was another generic driver I could try or if by some chance a newer Photosmart driver might be able to run my old Photosmart printer good enough to get me through the next couple months.
