HP Recommended
HP Laserjet M277
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I had an issue scanning from printer to my Gmail with the HP LaserJet Printer M277.

I have gone through many responses tackaling gmail accounts for SMTP parameters and I tried all of them. Beleive me, all of them were useless!

I solved my issue and I found where the cuase of HP printer issueing error of incorrect username or password. The issue is in the Google account security setup but not in the gmail account.

How I resolved it?

- I logged into my google account profile, where you photo or your  first letter of your name  is shown on the top right screen.

- Then got to security option as shown on the left side of the screen

- Go to the bottom of the screen in the area shows "Less secure app access"

- Turn this option "on"

This change in the security parameters of your google profile will enable HP printer "scan to email" to accept your email free of errors without giving you error message  "incorrect  username or passort error ".

<< Try it>> 🙂

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

After above steps was sucessfull for "scan to email function" for  Gmail setup on my HP printer, I also tried with my Yahoo email and itwas also sucessfull, but the process is quite diffrent than Gmail steps.

To do it right, please follow below steps:

- Login to your Yahoo email account and go through email security verification as usual.

-Go to the top right of the screen and click on your photo or your letter name to access "account Info".

-Click on the "account Info"

-On the left side of the screen, you will find "Account Security". Click on this option.

- you will find at the bottom of the screen "Manage apps Password". Click on this option.

-small window will be shown and askng for "Select your apss".

- Enter "Others Apps" and write down HP Printer.

- Press generate.

- Yahoo will provide  you password for the third party Apps. in our case HP printer scan to email apps.

- Copy it all and ignore provided balnk space between letters. Actually it is one long password without spaces. they just made it for the reading simplification. just use Ctl + A for "select all" and then use Ctl + C for "Copy".

- Go to your scan to email wizard on HP apps.

-Enter your yahoo email address and your name and go along  with what by default the system has filled out the required detail in the required fields.

-next page when it asks for the User ID and password:

for the User ID:  it is the your email address as system has already provided without "@yahoo.com".

for the password: use Ctl + P to paste the special password, which you have copied from yahoo web page as described above.

- For the next page NO Need to tick/select the option "Include sender in all email messages sent out sucessfully from the printer".

< End>

It took me alot of time and I have done many tries with diffrent options to resolve  this matter for myself.  I beleive, if above instrution was given by Google or Yahoo , I beleive thousands of users will be freed from frustration and wasting thier time trying and searching for solution.

Thanks to HP Community, which  is providing this type of channel to share our experiance and get the community benifit from others people experiance and findings.
