Dell Dimension 4600
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

After 10 years I finally have my HP Laserjet 1300 with an HP  Jetdirect 280m working and printing perfectly on an ad hoc network.  I ended up using my old Dell Dimension 4600 with a Netgear wireless adapter which has ad hoc support.  I have printed wirelessly on that computer with two different Windows operating systems...Vista 32-bit and 7 32-bit.  I have to use one of those two operating systems because I use the computer to run an older software program which will not install/run on Windows 10.  I tried to get this Jetdirect 280m working 10 years ago with no support and only recently attempted to give it another try.  Again, no support whatsoever and all the Googling about Jet-Admin, HP-Park, ip address, jetdirect configuration page, firewalls, creating wireless networks, etc. were completely useless.  Regardless, I figured it out by myself even though no one else in the world will probably need or want to use the Jetdirect 280m wireless printing adapter or even care.
