Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I can't get my G4050 to scan using the TMA.

I have tried HP Scan, Vuescan and scanning from Windows.

I ran the self-test (hold slide/negative scan and print buttons while powering on the scanner). The TMA light turns on and the bar travels the whole length of the opening in the lid, followed by the bottom scanning bar doing the same thing. Looks like this passed.

I tried the HP Print & Scan Doctor (rev. 5.1). It does not see the scanner at all. It only sees my Epson Stylus Photo R380 printer. I tried 5 different usb cables, plugged directly into one of the computer's usb ports (even the cable that was hooked up to the Epson printer which was seen) and still no luck. For the record the "Doctor" didn't see my Nikon Coolscan 5000 either and that is working just fine.

I tried installing and running HP Scan Extended like I saw recommended in one post. It opens when I press the slide/negative button on the scanner but does not even offer a transparency option. It only allows scanning a document or photo.

I have powered down the printer several times, including removing the power cable from the printer and the wall plug, but nothing has worked.

When I contacted the Vuescan people it seemed that their software could not use the HP scanner driver (which I have uninstalled & installed several times - both using the "basic" and "full" versions) so it uses some sort of generic driver, even for documents and photos.

It seems that the HP scanner and HP scanner drivers do not want to work together.

Any suggestions anyone?

My PC has an Intel core i7-2600K processor, 32Gb RAM, a GeForce GTA 1060 graphics card, a Gigabyte GA-Z68A-D3H-B3 motherboard and it is running Windows 10 pro (64-bit) ver. 10.0.17763 Build 17763.
