Hi everyone,

I've seen some posts where people are having issues with newer HP printer compatibility on the IBM iSeries.

Based on information I have researched, I was able to deduce that the main issue is the IBM OS not supporting IPV6 protocol, even as late as 2022.

We are in the process of transitioning from an older iSeries to a net based ERP.  In the interim, some printers have been updated.  Most recently, an HP printer, specifically the HP Laser Jet Pro 4201dw, replaced an older model.

One would think that you could just replace the printer and set it's static IP to that of what it was replacing.  Unfortunately, it was a lot more complicated than that.  But, the fix was quite easy.

I was able to gain access to the printer's web server, and from there, I navigated to Network > Network Settings > IP Settings, and changed the protocol to force IPv4 only.  By default, the printer runs IPv4 and IPv6 simultaneously.  This fixed the problem immediately.

FYI - I have multiple outq's set up to run our network printers.  The printers are multiple brands, but use the same iSeries settings.  This is what prompted me to think that brand/driver settings were probably not the issue.  This was the first printer where I encountered this problem.

In short, your printer should allow you to force IPv4 vs. IPv6, which should solve your issues.

Best,

Lane
