HP PageWide 377dw
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I purchased an HP PageWide 377dw printer earlier this summer from Staples and was specifically told by the sales person  that high yield cartridges could be used (10,000 pgs/cartridge vs 3,000) once the starter cartridges were empty (Using 972x rather than 972a cartridges). I do a significant amount of printing and this was a strong selling point since it would save both time and money in the long run.

When I replaced the initial cartridges, I got an 'incompatible ink' error. Confused, I called HP and was told that this model does NOT actually take the high-capacity cartridges, and I will have to purchase 972a ink instead!  Fortunately, I was able to return two new incompatible cartridges to Staples. Though they apologized profusely, it was still the salesperson's understanding that they should work. There is obvious confusion and mis-information out there, and I still have an UNOPENED black 972x cartridge that can no longer be returned to Amazon.

I called HP again, explained the situation and asked if they would exchange or return it. They will do nothing - but apologized and suggested that I find a friend to sell it to. Not good business.

Apparently I should have read the complaints of others before I purchased the printer or the ink as mine is not an isolated incident, and so many of our experiences are the same.  To quote another consumer on this site: 'The 972x fits nicely in the printer, and our sales person told us the high volume cartridges would work (why wouldn't they as they did with previous generation printers).  We spent a fortune on 972X cartridges via Amazon, passed the merchandise return period, tried the 972X, and found they don't work!  We now have more money in unusable 972X ink cartridges than we paid for the printer itself. HP, help me understand."

Yes, help me understand....
