For around a year I've been getting vertical stripes on my printouts - patches that are darker or lighter than other parts. It's not awful when you're looking at regular text, but it's very noticeable on images.
I've followed all the instructions that HP have suggested (clean printhead level 1, clean printhead level 2, align printheads, etc), etc: https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c05029966
I've even tried following some secret instructions that HP told me:
Press bottom-left (hidden) arrow four times.
Report Menu
Print-Mech
Code = 21
Go
This seemed to help a bit.
I've only ever used HP original cartridges, and I even use ColorLok paper.
The thing that has made a huge difference was that I cleaned the duplex tray (open the left-hand side and pull it out from the bottom) - it had a large amount of toner in it which I have rinsed out! I'm guessing it was so gunky from all the times I've tried cleaning it! However, it's still not perfect, as you can see from the attached images.
Does anyone have a good idea about what my next steps could be? HP suggested sending it back, but were charging a lot for it.
Finally, I use this for my home business. Sometimes I need to print 200 pages in quick succession, but sometimes I won't use it for a week. Should I leave it turned on between uses, or should I turn it off? It's difficult to tell - which uses more ink - the startup/shutdown process, or the periodic self-clean it does when it's left on? Is it using much power in standby?
