HP LaserJet 4M & HP Envy 17t Laptop 17ce-0015nr
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Two questions below. Trying for days to connect Local, non-shared printer with Parallel to USB cable. HP LaserJet 4M to my new HP Envy i7 Laptop x64 running WinHome 10.0.18363 v1909. This printer still runs fine on my 10-year-old HP Pavilion dv6-2190us i7 x64 Laptop running WinHome 10.0.17134.112 v1803 using manually installed Windows driver for HP LaserJet 4/4M PS. Tried using identical Win printer driver /settings on new laptop as I have on old laptop, but Windows 10 version 1909 will not install Win’s own HP LaserJet 4/4M PS driver because it is “signed, but not properly signed”.   Even with Win Certificate verification turned off in device settings, Win will not install this driver. NOTE: From new HP Envy, successfully installed and can print to local, non-shared HP DeskJet 932c directly connected to new laptop with USB to USB cable.

I am former corporate IT Tech support person, so can read and follow directions and am familiar with Windows 10 and prior OS. Tried everything suggested in both HP and Windows Community support sites, as well as every possible combination of HP web site drivers (including HP’s Universal PS), then Windows drivers, different cables, different order of plugging in cable ends, different order of powering on printer, different physical and virtual USB connections, installing in Device Manager as “Printer” and alternately under “Print Queue” category, etc. Each time, I try new combo, I completely remove existing device and start over. Best result achieved so far using HP’s Universal PS driver, the USB port and the printer device are both recognized from Windows and react accordingly when cable is unplugged /replugged, but print jobs never go to any Print Queue.  Printer, of course, does not light up with any data coming to it.

To save time experimenting with more combinations, please answer 2 questions: 1) What is diff between two HP web site drivers:  HP Universal Printing PS vs. HP Universal Printing PS (v6.9.0)?

Both have same date. Which is preferred for my scenario?

2) Once printer and HP Universal PS driver installed (confirm in Device Mgr), Open Control Panel>Devices and Printers. Right Click on Printer Icon, select Printer Properties , then Advanced Tab, click on “Print Processor” button at bottom, what combo should be chosen in two columns? Or assume default is correct?
PRINT PROCESSOR       DEFAULT DATA TYPE
hpcpp240                         RAW
hpcpp160                         RAW [FF Appended]
