DeskJet 2724
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I've just installed a new HP DeskJet 2724 printer and installed the HP Smart app on Windows 10. It is working. However it's factory default setting always prints at the slow, ink-heavy Glossy Paper setting. For example, if I access a PDF document to print off by going through the HP Smart app, and select 'Print Document', the print dialogue box that opens  is always set to 'HP Glossy Brochure or Professional Paper'. I can manually select 'Plain Paper' but I have to do this every time I print a job. I've never had this before with any other printer. Always before plain paper has been the default setting for ordinary print jobs on other printers. If I go in the other way and open the PDF document first, and select the printer icon from the top task bar within the PDF document, then a different type of print dialogue box opens, and it does not display the paper type, only the size (A4) and print quality (300dpi). When I printed a job off at that, the printer was still slow and used a lot of ink. When I clicked on 'Use System Dialogue' option and then 'Preferences', I found the list of 'Printing Shortcuts' with 'Factory Defaults' at the top, 'General Everyday Printing' below that, then 'Two Sided (Duplex) Printing' and so on. With 'Factory Defaults' being top of the list, it seems to be the setting that the printer operates on unless other options are manually changed before each and every print job. And there within 'Factory Defaults' is that paper quality of 'HP Glossy Brochure or Professional Paper. I can (1) select 'Plain Paper' from the drop down box and click 'Okay' for the 'Factory Defaults' icon, or (2) click on the 'General Everyday Printing' icon and click 'Okay', and for one job, and one job only, I can get the 'Plain Paper' print quality to work. But - ending the print job, or closing and reopening the print dialogue boxes, simply puts the printer back to 'Factory Defaults' and the 'Plain Paper' setting IS NOT remembered and the next job defaults to the 'HP Glossy Brochure or Professional Paper' setting that is slow and uses a lot of ink. This seems a rather silly default setting. Is there a way of getting this printer to remember 'Plain Paper' permanently for the 'Factory Default' icon, or making the 'General Everyday Printing' icon be top of the list and therefore the true default setting? These printing shortcut icons display a locked padlock which is obviously the reason why I can't make permanent changes to the setup in each one. All I want is for the paper quality of my new printer to NOT default to 'Glossy Paper' and to be set to default to 'Plain Paper' which ought to be the obvious choice.
