Product: Envy 6230
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

I'm trying to install HP easy start for a new Envy 6230 all in one printer on an old Macbook running Mac OS X 10.11

The driver page correctly identifies my operating system.  But when i try to install it, a page appears saying 

"We have a better software option available for you. Install HP Smart to complete setup and access all the features and benefits available for your printer.You can also install the HP Smart software from your app store to complete setup.

Note: You might need to update your operating system before installing the HP Smart software."

 

It only gives an option to go from there to the drivers installation page again, where it only offers the same driver software.  And then goes round in a circle again.  My Macbook is too old to support a later OS, but the drivers page says it supports 10.5 onwards.

Is there alternative driver software to install or a way to get past this problem?
