Officejet pro 8600
macOS 10.14 Mojave

All of a sudden my Officejet Pro 8600 copier/printer/scanner/fax stopped printing documents and screen grabs.  It was working fine last week.  I am running Mac OS 10.14.6 Mojave and HP driver 4.5.0 connecting with a USB cable.

I have followed all the instructions found online to delete the printer from the System Preferences and add it back in.  I've downloaded the Easy Set up and re-installed the drivers  and all that stuff, but my system still won't print.

The scanner works fine with my iMac and if I go to printer utilities and tell it to 'clean print heads' it will do that and print out a sample, so I know the computer and Officejet Pro 8600 are 'talking' to each other.  So why won't it print documents or screen grabs anymore.  It worked fine last week and I didn't change anything before it stopped working.  All it tells me when I click on the printer icon in the Mac Dock is that the 'filter failed'.

What 'filter' is failing?  How can it be fixed?

I called AppleCare and they walked me thru all of the above, but still no luck.

Can anyone help me ?
