Please read this post then provide some details. What operating system? How is the printer connected - USB, wired LAN, Wireless LAN? Will the 8600 make copies properly?
If you are using a recent version of Windows the diagnostics at http://www.hp.com/go/tools may help resolve the issue. Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor.

Hi, sometimes the printer may be performing some other jobs and the printing job is queuing. So can you please check if the front panel UI is showing printing as well. If so, you can try do a power cycle first to see if problem solved.
If problem still seen, please go to setup menu->restore factory defaults to do a restore factory setting and then try again.
Hope this can help you out, have a nice day.

Is the printer only used for copying, and not connected to any computers? Has the printer had eprint or any apps enabled to print from the internet? Can you power off the printer, let it sit for a minute and then turn the printer back on.

Hi there ,
My suggestion as follows :
1. Please go into the "Device and printers" to check if the correct printer is being set to default
2. Then go to "See what's printing"
3. Pls see if is there a long print job queue being piled up. If so, you may want to delete the print jobs in the queue
4. If the queue is empty, pls select from the "Printers" from pull-down menu and select "Properties"
5. Then click on "Print Self Test Page". This is to verify if your printer is working properly
6. If the self test page can be printed out, then try to resend a print job to the empty queue
Hope this could help to resolve your issue.
Thks & Best Rgds
