HP Recommended

I have been having this problem for about 6 months.  I have an HP Officejet 4658.

When I first got the problem (which appeared at random, I hadn't installed a new cartridge) I found that by clicking the cartridge open and shut, the printer would work for a single print job.

This was annoying as every time I wanted to print something I had to reset the cartridge.  However, as I don't print very much it was manageable.  I looked at this thread and saw that the main solution seems to be to install a new cartridge.

Therefore, I struggled on until it was time to install a new cartridge (I have instant ink).

Imagine my annoyance to find that the new cartridge WON'T PRINT AT ALL!!

I've done loads of restarts exactly as described and I've tried reinstalling the old cartridge.  Sometimes after a restart the printer will work for one job then it goes back to the reinstall message continually, ie, it won't print at all and it won't copy.

Is there an answer or is it just a case of chucking the HP printer, cancelling the Instant Ink, making sure everyone knows not to buy an HP ever again?

I can see this post was started a couple of years ago - still no solution?  Please get this sorted HP, it's clearly not a problem with the printer itself, or with the cartridge but with the softwear.

I hope I hear from you soon.
