I wanted to help out anyone else who has been pulling their hair out with this issue.
I would print (barely) one document from my phone using the printer's IP address (WiFi Direct would die within minutes of the printer booting up--I'll save that for another thread) and then every attempt after that was met with a "Unable to print. File is corrupt" message on the printer's little screen.
I read in another thread that the user was able to solve this issue when printing from Mac OS by changing the output from the mac to something like "Generic postscript" so I looked for a similar option. I did not find this option, but I did find an option to turn on "Android Print Rendering" for those who were having print quality issues.
It wasn't perfect (1 out of 7 prints still failed) but I'll take it over the 1-out-of-7 prints succeeding!
To change this option, you need to dig a little deep. Select print from your app or share to a print service like HP print service or Samsung Print Service, then select your printer and find the "More options" at the bottom then select settings from the dotted menu and then Advanced Settings. Turn on Android Print Rendering. Reverse out of the menus and try again.
For what it's worth, once you change this setting, it sticks, so you don't have to repeat it for each time you print, however, sharing to the HP Print Service produces output much faster than selecting Print and then choosing the Samsung Print Service.
Hope this helps some people, at least!
