HP Recommended
HP Scanjet 8300 Digital Flatbed Scanner
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My Scanjet 8300 has developed a grinding noise when the lamp tray returns from the 8 1/2 by 14 inch setting.

It doesn't do it in the 8 1/2 by 11 inch setting.

Also if I lift the lid when the lamp tray finishes the long travel, the noise doesn't occur.

It also doesn't occur if I remove the white plastic cover under the top cover that seems to cover the reflector (whatever it is) that is in the cover.  It looks like it is called the Transparent materials adapter (TMA)

Any idea of what is causing the grinding noise and how to fix it?

My scanner is a flatbed model without the Automatic Document Feeder.

I'm using Win10 (64-bit) and usually VueScan software.  No problem with the drivers.  The scans work correctly.  I'm not getting any error messages.
