I need to reset the manually set IP address on a M203dw. The IPV4 settings on the printer currently prohibit me from access it via the web interface, as the gateway and IP address are set up for a separate VLAN. What button combination needs to be pressed on startup of the printer to reset the network settings?
I've seen a bunch of questions on this forum asking for this same thing. One answer given points to page 76 of the manual , which is all well and great if you can connect it to the network via its current IPV4 config, but if you don't have access to that network, there's no way listed to rest the printer to factory defaults.
I've seen a lot of responses from HP Support Agents saying "I'll send you the solution in a private message", as if revealing how to reset the printer quickly is the catalyst that will begin the great printer wars, destroying all of humanity in the printers' thirst for paper, tray 1 load settings, and the one color toner that keeps you from printing black. What gives? Can the public not be trusted with such deep and powerful industry secrets? Is there fear that printers everywhere will be reset constantly by hordes of anti-printing activists, crying for the reduction of ridiculous rate of paper and plastic consumption that causes absurd environmental damage that is justified by temporary gains and conveniences that won't be remembered in 50 years, cutting into HP's toner profits? Are we supposed to treat it like an inkjet and just buy a new printer because it's cheaper than refilling the ink? What is the reason why it can't be posted publicly?
If anyone is wondering, it's not too difficult to figure this out anyway. There's 3 buttons on the control panel. Holding various combinations together while you power on the printer should (always the key work in tech) get you the desired result of resetting the printer to factory defaults. For instance, I held all three buttons (Wifi, Resume, and Cancel buttons) together as I powered the printer on until the printer stopped making noise. After a quick power off and on, and lo and behold my printer network settings were reset!
TLDR:
- Hold all three buttons during power on until printer stops booting
- Power the printer off, then back on
- Profit! (even you HP! That means I can use your printer and toner again!)
