hp laserjet 3015
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an hp laserjet connected by usb to my computer and it is working fine for me there. I can see it across the home lan and i can send print jobs to it and they appear in the print queue. but they will not print. printer error.

i should make clear: it prints fine locally. just not across the lan.  they stay in the queue 'printer error'

so i poke around trying to find the reason for this and i don't find it but I do find on the computer it is attached to that it is listed as attached to port LPT1. And surely that's wrong? but I see no way of specifying a usb port. yet it works alright.(except across the lan) so somehow it's kinda right and wrong at the same time.

I would like to know the ins and outs of that port thing. And I would like to know if possible what to do about getting it usable across the lan. can anyone help?
