After distrinution-upgrade of my xubuntu 16.04 to 18.04 HP laptop printing did not work. Previously the Laserjet Pro P1102w printer worked well with previous version of HPLIP. After much research and frustration I downloaded the latest hplip, installed it (part of it was removing previous version-OK). After rebooting the HP Device Manager aplet showed up on "whatever it is called the thing where battery, date and wireless icons are". When I opened it up it complained that there is no device - I guess no printer, no scanner, etc. found. This after I ran the hp-setup in command  line, as part of hplip installation. The command completed successfully, but I still could not print. OK, the Device Manager did not see it. So I went to the cups web interface, and was able to add printer, print test page, and use my printer since then. However, at successive boot up the HP Device Manager still cannot see my functionning printer.

I realize this may be a joint problem with Ubuntu 18.04, but since this is an HP provided software, using HP laptop and HP printer I decided to post this on the HP board. The issue is not serious, I can print using HP open source software, the issue is just an annoyance. Thank you.
