HP Recommended

I have an HP G4050 scanner and am now starting to use an HP laptop. On my previous laptop I used without fairly easily the old MS office document scanning program.  Now when I try to using the MS office scanning program with the HP scanner, it all goes haywire.  So when trying to use the MS program and I try to select a scanner, what happens is that I get "HP Scanjet G4050 TWAIN" instead of "HP Scanjet G4050."    When I push the scan button I am told "unable to initialize scanner."  Is this a hopeless case or is there someway I can continue to use the MS program with the HP G4050?
