Operating System: Chrome OS

I have an HP C4480 (non wi-fi) printer wired to my HP chromebook laptop.      The printer is at my holiday home and hasnt been used for a year.      When I tried it a week ago, the printer only prints a letter covering a quarter of an A4 sheet (top left quarer).   If you go to print size settings it shows (maybe Japanese ?) foreign description of sizes available - none of which equate to A4.

 

Copying onto A4 seems ok.    

 

I have been told that the problem is down to HP phasing out google print services in Dec 2020 but I dont know how to resolve the problem.      You would think that HP should provide the answer - if they have - I cant find it.    Does anyone have a solution please ?
