Hi,

I just received a new OMEN 35L and while everything works fine with the rear USB ports, when connecting my iPhone 16 on a FRONT/TOP USB port (1C 10Gb/ 2A 5Gb), the behaviour is very erratic.

Most of the time the iPhone handcheck is fine, but I can barely see the directories and if so, it's very slow. Itunes doesn't recognize the iPhone as well. It works sometimes 1 everyt 30 trials.

My PC is up to date with the last firmware F10, all hp drivers, windows 25H2, my cables are 100% certified and I tried many things reinstalling drivers and so on.

First of all, does any owner of this machine experience this problem ?

When connecting an SSD it's fine with high transfer rate.

I wanted to exchange this model with a new one but it's out of stock.

Any hint ?

Thanks

Using USB to iPhone only shows the photo storage as explained here

Obtain photos from the the iCloud.  On my iPhone 16, if I save a photo it takes about 5-8 seconds before it shows up in the ICloud windows 11 repository

If you want to access files you need a 3rd party app.  I used iExplorer for a while and got a license that allowed use of both Windows and MacOS.  it saved entire message threads emails including attachments, etc.

Itunes is a real problem if you want to put "free" mp3 or store bought music that was not bought through the Apple store.  3rd party apps make is easy to move music to and from the iPhone on windows.

Hi BeemerBiker,

Thanks for taking time helping.

Honestly, I've been using this method for a decade without any problem : plug the iPhone, open the browser to see the DCIM folders and access the files within.  It works/ed on my various laptops, my old RIP alienware and so on.

The thing is that here, everything is ok with de rear USB A 5Gb, USB C 10Gb and USB C 10Gb DP ans I can proceed as usual.

However, with the TOP I/O hub, sometimes I've got the handcheck, sometimes not, then sometimes the directories start to appear and then mute to the blue lock icon in a desperate slowness. And every 30 times it works perfectly. On the other hand my 3.0 SSD works full power.

I tried various certified USB cables, the PC is up to date and the Apple drivers reinstalled, USB disconnect for power save disabled and iPhone unlocked and authorized. Of course I checked the internal wirings ok but it works with the SSD anyway...

Since the iPhone 16  is power demanding and that I saw no power cable for this top I/O USB module except for the led and power button, could it be a passive hub with a too demanding iPhone ?

An MTP  mismatch ? A board controller driver bug ? I wanted to figure out if it's software or if it could be hardware

(7) Top I/O USB Type-C connector
(8) Top I/O USB Type-A connector
(10) Top I/O power button and power LED connector

The postsales were unable to find out anything since everything is up to date and the tests reveal no problem. Note that the iPhone connection cannot be tested as and MTP device.

The sole proposal was to change for a new same PC but unfortunately it's now out of order.

To be honest, it was risky to loose all my current configuration and licences to reinstall everything and I pray that it is a sofware bug somewhere or a kind of hardware limitation.

That's precisely why I'm asking the community for :  proofs that yes it works or not on this same platform

I use an older Area51 desktop (win11) and found long ago that if I disconnect the USB without ejecting the iPhone there is a %90 chance the I will have to reboot the PC before I can access the DCIM folder again.  I spent a lot of time trying to get bluetooth to transfer files so as to avoid using USB.  I finally realized that Apple had no interest in solving bugs on windows PCs for USB or bluetooth.  I gave up and enabled sync for iCloud and paid the $ 0.99 monthly fee for all my pictures to fit in iCloud.  If I did not pay the .99 monthly then either the iPhone backups or photos would fit but not both.

If you do a clean install of Windows 11 you are asked if you want your android phone configured to work with windows.   You are never asked if you want your Apple iPhone configured.  There is a reason for that:  the problem is Apple's proprietary code and lack of support for any non-apple systems.

I totally agree with you. Unfortunately here, the problem is more repetitive as the iPhone is not seen at all while it works perfectly with the rear USB port.

On the same hand, I've got sometimes a weird behaviour with the SSD that appears in 2.0 and then when I plug another SSD the new one appears 3.0 and replugging the first one makes it in 3.0...

I've notice a driver difference with the eXtensible port 1.10 for the front Top I/O hub et 1.20 for the rear one.

Could it be an explanation ?

Unfortunately, no HP postsales has been able to diagnose something.

ChatGPT gives me a 70% software 30% hardware potential problem.

I was thinking of a wrong mount with an previous old top I/O hub (2.0) - same size and configuration -  mounted in my PC and connected to a 3.0 motherboard controller.

Here is the hub SN

Is there any Tech in this community that may help me find out what's going on ?
