Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I was working on my mother in laws laptop. I replace the screen because she said that the backlight kept dimming. I replaced the screen. Now it will not power on. I tried doing a hard reset with no success. I even try a different power supply and tried replacing the internal battery.

@ambryner

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.

I understand that you replaced the display screen of your Mother in laws HP Pavilion dv7 laptop. Since then the laptop does not power on. You have performed a hard reset and even replaced the battery and still there's no power. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Did you check for any internal cables that may have got disconnected during the screen replacement?
  • Is there a light on the DC power port?
  • Is the ac adapter brick warm?

I suggest you to check the compatible display assemblies and the process of replacing the display in the maintenance and user guide (page# 64).

If possible then please try using an alternate compatible AC adapter and check if the laptop powers on. Also, remove the battery out and try to power on the laptop using only the ac adapter and vice versa.

I hope this information helps. Please feel free to let me know how it goes. Cheers!
