Unable to print using my HP Laptop with cable hooked up to printer.

I am able to print wirelessly with my HP laptop. However, when I turn the internet access off and hook up a USB cable to my Brother printer, it will not work. I tried hooking up the cable to the other HP laptop that we have and it works fine.

To assist you better, what model HP PC are you using?

Refer to this document to know how to find the Product Name or Product Number.

Do you have an Anti-virus program installed on this PC that may block the USB connection to the printer?

On the PC, go to Device Manager, expand Universal serial bus controllers and check if the printer is getting detected.

Have you installed the printer driver on the PC?

Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thank you for getting back to me. Without me doing anything different, I am now able to print using the cable. I am hooked up to a Brother printer/scanner. It is now showing the "Brother HL-2280DW  Printer" as being offline but I can print to "Brother HL-2280DW". The product name is HP Laptop 17-by1xxx. In the Device screen it is showing Brother LaserType 1 Class Driver under printers.

I cannot use the duplex feature in the Brother HL-2280DW setting but I could use it in the Brother HL-2280DW Printer setting. How can I get the Brother HL-2280DW back online? Thanks.

Thanks for replying. This could be an issue with the printer driver or printer settings. 

Please contact the printer support, they should be able to guide you further.
