Not sure if this is a hardware of software issue. Whenever I plug my APC UPS/battery backup cable into the PC's USB port, the computer does not the turn off the screen and go to sleep as per power management settings. It took me a while to figure this one out. When I unplug the UPS cable, the computer screen turns off and the unit sleeps as configured. So it's 100% caused by the USB port.
For clarity, the cable I'm talking about allows the PC to communicate with the UPS to monitor voltage and manage shutdown in the event of a power failure. On the desktop, I run APCs PowerChute software. I have tried changing various power management advanced settings but it makes no difference.
Any suggestions on how to resolve this? I do want the keep monitoring the UPS and do want my computer to sleep.
