Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I'm running out of ideas and really could use some sharp help.  Had a crash, Windows recommended a total reset, did that. Then my speakers would only play if I had a plug inserted into an audio port or the mic port.  Remove the plug and the speakers stopped sounding.  The mixer still showed activity, but no sound came out of the speakers.  After a session with a Microsoft Tech Support Chat Agent and going thru all thier troubleshooting and driver updates, etc, etc. and still not resolving the issue, they recommended a Windows 10 update.  After completing that, NOW the pc doesn't recognize the speakers at all.  The troubleshooter comes back with "peripheral speakers or headphones are unplugged", that's it.

It seems that some device drivers, codec, or other integril software that manages the audio ports and speakers is either missing or corrupt. Wouldn't think the Windows reset would mess with the BIOS but I haven't tried refreshing that? But that is about the only thing I have left in my bag of tricks.

Hoping there is a supper geek out there that might have a clue what's going on here?  Thanks.

Other data, info:

Audio will play thru my HDMI port to my LG Sound Bar,

Device Manager:

-Audio inputs and outputs

AMD HDMI Output (AMD High Definition Audio Device)

-Sound devices

     AMD High Definition Audio Device

IDT High Definition Audio CODEC  [this may have been installed during troubleshooting)

There is one flag for an Unknown device  under "Other Devices"

I have attempted to search and install a driver for this with no sucess. Have even uninstalled it, but it comes back.  So haven't a clue what its for.
