I just got a custom build Pavilion Desktop 790-0050t from hp.com and I noticed that the 400w power supply fan was not spinning. I restarted the unit and noticed that the PSU fan does spin immediately on start-up but after a couple of seconds it stops. I have yet to see the fan spin while it is in use but I haven't pushed it hard yet. I have read that there are PSUs where the fan only runs when required based on load or temp. I called HP tech support to ask if this power supply was operating as it should or should the fan be spinning all the time. I was told the power supply was defective since the fan was not spinning all the time. Since I am within the 30 day return window and since HP tech support was telling me it was defective I had no choice but to return this unit and request that a replacement unit is shipped. But I have a feeling that there is a chance the PSU was operating correctly and the replacement unit will act the same.
Has anyone else seen the same issue? The label on the PSU shows it as HP Part # 942332-001 and Model# PA-3401-1 but I can not find any info online about this model.
