I spent hours scouring this support board and the internet generally for a solution to my HP Pavilion Laptop 15-CSxxx internal microphone not working (even though Win 10 reported it was working fine and green bars showed in Win 10's sound control dialogue, it didn't work in Voice Recorder, Skype or Zoom). After numerous audio driver updates, mic disables/enables, mic uninstalls/installs, mic permissions turned on/off, and everything else I could think of to solve this issue, I stumbled on the solution, which I thought I would share here since nowhere have I seen this suggested fix:
Here's what worked for me: open "HP Audio Control" under Win 10 programs, go to the "Input" tab, turn off "HP Noise Cancellation". Voila! I now have a working internal microphone (I have the mic input level set to 100%). I hope this helps others who have this issue.
