Hi all,

I bought this HP laptop a few months ago, and the past week I've noticed the fan acting strange though I'm not doing anything different, just browsing the internet.

I got a couple apps to monitor fan speed and cpu temperature. The temp changes slowly between 60 and 70 and from what i know thats pretty normal. The fan speed however will go from 0 to 3000 to 6000 RPM back and forth every couple seconds. Sometimes it will stay on 6000 RPM for like 30 minutes even when the temperature is low 60s. Likewise, sometimes it shuts off for a while even when the temp is higher. there doesnt seem to be any pattern.

I'm assuming it's a software problem? I've run virus scans and I've checked Task Manager but cpu is running at a fairly constant 10%. I tried going into the UEFI but there are no options for controlling fan speed.

I'm just at a loss. I'm afraid this will cause damage to my laptop or the fan will break or something so I'm really hoping someone can help me with this. Thank you!
