Hi, I have the laptop here: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-14-fq0000-laptop-pc-series/33690512/model/37747606/document/...
I am trying to connect both my personal and work laptops to a KVM switch. I got the work laptop up and running, no problem.
My personal laptop is an HP fq0013dx with specs at the link above.
If I'm reading that correctly, I should have at least two video outputs, the HDMI and the USB C. However, the symbol next to my USB C looks like a USB 2.0 symbol similar to here: https://www.quora.com/Is-USB-C-capable-of-transmitting-video-from-a-laptop.
I'm running Windows 10 and I can see the connection in the Device Manager. It says Universal Serial Bus Device (and then under that is says BillBoard Device). I know its the USB C connection, because when I unplug it it disappears. I tried searching for drivers, but it says the correct drivers are installed.
My connection is really kinda convoluted. Starting at the laptop, I have a USB C (on laptop) to HDMI (on KVM switch) connector which gets me from Laptop to KVM Switch. The KVM switch outputs using a HDMI (KVM switch) to DVI (Monitor) cable. Monitors are decade old Hyundai and have VGA and DVI ports.
I've used the HDMI to DVI cable before, so I know it works. The USB C to HDMI cable is new, but the picture on the box shows a laptop (USB C) and a monitor (HDMI) so I'm pretty sure its the right cable.
I see a couple of USB A slots with the 3.1 symbol, but I have no cables that go from USB A to HDMI.
Under Device Manager, USB Controllers, I have:
AMD USB 3.1 eXtensible Host Controller - 1.10 (microsoft)
Generic USB Hub
Generic USB Hub
Generic USB Hub
USB Composite Device
USB Composite Device
USB Root Hub (USB 3.0)
How can I hookup the laptop through the switch to these two old monitors? Or, first step, how do I tell if my USB C port is 3.1 and can output video or not?
