I want to add my case to the legion of people who have already submitted this problem, in hopes it gets noted by HP and followed up with Google. My Chromebook is pretty much useless as it is.
I am getting the dreaded "Chrome OS is missing or damaged" screen pretty much every day. Initially, I recovered my Chromebook using a USB stick created on another Chromebook. It does not matter, it keeps happening. I am lucky in that I usually can recover by simply pressing and holding the power button for a few seconds and then pressing the power button again to start. Sometimes I have to repeat this several times. I have gone through all the steps recommended to other people with the same problem. Unfortunately I am out of warranty, but the problem started just before my warranty expired a few months ago. I have learned from other forums that pressing Tab when getting the "Chrome OS is missing or damaged" screen will get you additional technical information that may be useful. I am attaching a picture of one such occurrence. Hopefully, some techie may be able to provide more insight.
