I have HP laptop model 17-BY0053CL running Windows 10. For several months now I have been dealing with problems connecting to wifi. This is a big problem, as i have no other way to get online with the laptop. Both my home and my work internet are provided by hotspots, and I have been able to determine that the hotspots are working fine with other devices.
When I do manage to connect my laptop to wifi, it usually disconnects after a little while, ranging from 30 seconds to 15 minutes. After it disconnects, if the hotspot still appears in the networking list it says I can't connect. But what's more baffling is that a lot of the time (whether i had previously managed to connect or not) the wifi icon disappears completely, both from the networking pop-up menu in the lower right corner and from the Network and Internet settings screen. It's like the laptop refuses to acknowledge that wifi exists. When this happens, the only thing that can get it working again is to restart or sometimes even completely shutdown the computer and turn it back on again, often multiple times. And by multiple times, I mean I am spending hours repeatedly restarting the computer.
I have made sure that "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is not checked in the properties of the driver. (Incidentally, the driver itself often disappears from the list of network adaptors when the laptop is not recognizing wifi.) I have reset the network properties, and then manually unchecked the above mentioned "...save power" box. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver. All of these I have done multiple times. Sometimes one or another of these works for awhile, but the problem keeps returning. It is seriously disrupting my workflow, and the problem seems to be getting progressively worse.
Today I contacted Microsoft customer support and, after a little troubleshooting, told me to contact the manufacturer because the problem was with the laptop, and provided me with a link here. I have already been here multiple times reading other people's questions and answers, which is where I learned to do a lot of the things I have already tried, but this is my first time asking the question myself.
