hp w2207
macOS 12.0 Monterey

I'm trying to connect a hp w2207 monitor to my MacBook, but am struggling. When starting the monitor, the computer identifies it and I can extend or mirror the screen. The monitor does not however get the input signal. It only lights up briefly telling me there is no VGA input and no DVI input. Then it tells me that the monitor is going to sleep. I seem to be unable to start the menu using the menu button.

What might I be missing? I have tried searching for drivers and such, but had no luck. I will look for another VGA cable tomorrow, but in the mean time wonder if there is something else I should try? I have restarted both the computer and monitor several times.

It's a macbook pro using macOS 12.0 Monterey. They are connected using VGA and a VGA to hdmi-adapter. The audio is not connected (in case that matters).

Thank you so much for any help!
