I had to reinstall my son's desktop tonight. Installed the hp assistant to see what drivers etc were missing. There was a suggested firmware update. I let the assistant software do its thing. Rebooted into bios manager itself and updated bios blocks 1 - 256. All looked to have went without hitch. Now desktop will power on but that is it. I've tried resetting the Bios with windows key & b plus power, resetting CMOS by removing battery (located under Radeon graphics card). Also tried the jumper on the mobo. Nothing doing. Cannot get any output from keyboard presses. Tried different keyboard as well. I had a look in here and it looks like this might be a warranty issue. Unfortunately I bought the machine from Currys in UK so hp has no warranty recorded against the unit.
I'm furious that a recommended install from HP has caused this. I notice from browsing here that this seems to be a known issue.
Does anyone have any ideas how to fix without re-flashing the bios using an external tool.
