Hi, I have an issue with my HP Envy x360 13in (with AMD Ryzen 4700U processor) which has been an issue since i bought the laptop back in 2020.
The laptop can get stuck in either laptop mode, or tablet mode after the machine has been on for a long time.
Restarting the laptop, or hibernating the laptop, fixes the issue. I believe this is a BIOS bug.
I'm on all the latest drivers, including the latest BIOS (F23).
This problem also was in Windows 10.
I don't think it is a hardware problem as hibernating/restarting the laptop fixes the issue, the sensor detecting tablet/laptop mode works perfectly.
There are other threads talking about the issue however they do not seem to have many solutions.
The problem:
When switching to tablet mode, the keyboard&touchpad stay active which means you can press the keys (unwanted behaviour)..
When switching to laptop mode, the keyboard&touchpad are not active which means you cannot use the laptop other than touchscreen.
To reproduce:
Have laptop plugged in & on sleep mode for a long time (must be more than ~8hrs) (make sure CPU is active for a long time).. On resume of sleep the laptop will stay in whatever mode it was in last.
OR
Have laptop plugged in and screen on & active. Run the machine like this for 8hrs or more. (I recommend playing a long youtube video to avoid any screen damage due to static images). Then try and put the laptop into tablet mode / out of tablet mode.. The machine will not switch.
Restarting the laptop, or putting the laptop into hibernate mode then turning on again, fixes the issue.
This is especially annoying in the scenario where, you charge the laptop sitting on 1 side, as you charge it like this it is in tablet mode due to the angle of the screen.. After 8hrs (or more) you will find the laptop stuck in tablet mode unable to switch.
