hobbiyist grade projector suggestions

I cant afford david laser scanner projector. Is there a hobbyist grade projector that is good enough? Is there a projector that at some point you can change the lens out for what is really needed for scanning?

In 3d Scanning the quality of scan is in the cameras and projectors you pay for. In the case of hobby scanning that does not require high tolerance accuracy there are several DIY scanners available. The HP 3d SCANpro originated with a group that had their software open source and a great forum of Arduino based hardware tinkerers. The software required fundamental knowledge of 3d structured light or laser scanning and setup was not intuitive. That would be the DAVID scanner. Usually with the DIY Hobbyist scanning you are limited in the software to 1 camera and the rate of scanning is much slower than the commercial available units. As a commercial product goes, the HP 3dScanPro is the least expensive of softwares for very accurate scans and the hardware takes out a lot of the tinkering needed for consistent scanning. High end metrology scanning systems usually start at double the HP 3dScanPro and go up to 10s of thousands. It sounds like you are looking for a much simpler hobby level of use and for that the all3dp.com website has a lot of information on 3d scanners. I do recommend the HP 3DScanPro as in comparison to all the other scanners in the DIY world. If you dont need high res look a photogammetry instead of structured light scanning. That just needs a good camera and basic software like Strata's FOTO3D. Hope that helps.
