HP OmniBook X Flip 16 inch 2-in-1 Laptop Next Gen AI PC 16-ar0000 (AK4R8AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I'm using an OmniBook X Flip 16 inch 2-in-1

The 3D accelerometer is stuck in the tablet mode. This has the effect of locking/disabling the keyboard and trackpad.

Diagnostics show that all sensors are functioning except 3D accelerometer (AMD version 11.12.0.2, P-ID+1008) reporting "The device is invalid" using HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows 2.8.0.0

I have:

Fully updated via Windows Update

Fully updated via Microsoft Store

Removed the drivers for the sensor (Device Manager)

Disabled and reenabled (Device Manager)

Installed the drivers from the HP product support page

Installed the drivers from AMD's Install manager

Verified that the rotation lock is disengaged

Verified the sensor services are enabled and running

Done a Windows update reinstallation of windows

Done a Full PC reset.

Tested sensor output via Microsoft SensorExplorer : No sensor output reported on gyroscope, accelerometer or position sensors. Presence sensing operating normally.

UEFI diagnostics all come back clean, and the keyboard and trackpad work in both the UEFI diagnostic program and the BIOS. After doing a full PC reset, during initial Windows setup the keyboard and trackpad disabled.

The computer was fine last night, this morning I opened the lid and the thing was in tablet mode.

I'm no novice to computer repair or tech support and this has me flat out stumped.

Does anyone know of a way to either get the sensor working again or to stop it from disabling the built-in keyboard and trackpad? This thing is 15 days post purchase and hasn't moved off my desk the entire time.

I've attached a screenshot of the one and only diagnostic that reports any issue

I got it!

I had to unplug the charger and hold the power button down for ten seconds forcing a full power off and resetting the CMOS.

I waited one full minute and hit the power button, got a jump-scare with a cmos data invalid message, hit enter to reset it and Windows booted, now it's back to working normally.

I just had to come back and post the solution, since I couldn't find a solution anywhere. I had to look at other HP 2 in 1 models having similar issues to find anything related, and this was the only step in all of those results that I hadn't tried.
