Hi All, I have had an Omen 45L for the last three years and it has caused nothing but issues (which is annoying given that it is the most expensive computer I've ever bought). Specifically, I now have issues with a black screen whenever certain games or video software is running. Even older games from 10 years ago as well as new ones, whenever there is anything intensive, the computer keeps running but the screen goes black and it says no input on the display. I've used AI to try and solve the issue but nothing. Tried updating drivers, still nothing. Whatever I try to do, this issue still seems to exist.
Can anybody from HP help with this? It's crazy that I have a 3080 RTX Nvidia video card and I cannot even run basic games like the original metro series from 10 years ago. Yet I have an 11 year old HP pc that can run these games no problem. Any ideas of how to solve this?

Hi @Nikolias
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thank you for sharing this—and I’m truly sorry you’ve had to endure such persistent frustration with a system that should be delivering top-tier performance. When a high-end desktop like the OMEN 45L with an RTX 3080 fails to handle even modest workloads without black screen interruptions, it’s not just inconvenient—it’s unacceptable.
Let’s walk through a structured recovery approach to help isolate and resolve the issue:
1. Power Supply and GPU Stability Check
Even though the system keeps running, a black screen with “no input” often points to a GPU signal dropout or power delivery fault.
- Ensure the GPU is seated firmly in the PCIe slot.
- Check both 8-pin power connectors from the PSU to the GPU.
- If possible, test with a different PSU or monitor cable to rule out signal loss.
2. Disable Hardware Acceleration in Video Apps
Some video software uses GPU acceleration that can trigger instability.
- In apps like Chrome, Discord, or media players, go to Settings > Advanced > System and disable “Use hardware acceleration when available.”
- Restart the app and test again.
3. Perform a Clean NVIDIA Driver Installation
Standard updates may leave behind conflicting files. A clean install ensures full reset of GPU settings.
- Download the latest driver from NVIDIA’s official site.
- Use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) in Safe Mode to remove all existing NVIDIA drivers.
- Reboot and install the fresh driver manually.
4. Update OMEN Firmware and BIOS
Outdated firmware can cause power and thermal mismanagement under load.
- Visit the HP OMEN 45L GT22-0000i support page.
- Download and install:
- Latest BIOS update
- OMEN Gaming Hub
- Chipset and thermal controller drivers
5. Run HP UEFI Diagnostics
This tool can detect GPU, memory, or motherboard faults.
- Restart your PC and press Esc, then F2 to enter diagnostics.
- Run the Graphics Test and System Board Test.
You deserve a system that performs reliably and powerfully—especially when you’ve invested in premium hardware. Let’s work together to restore the experience you expected from day one.

Hello,
Thank you for your reply. I have systematically gone through each point (although point 2 is not relevant for playing games or other video software issues, I never get a crash doing normal things on the internet with edge or chrome for example). But still, the crash happens. Point 5 came up with no errors for system board test and video test. There was no specific graphics card test available.
So what do I do now? Is it simply a faulty, badly built PC? Please help.

Oh and I'm not a computer expert. For point 1 I tested a monitor connection with HDMI instead, and that didn't help so it's not that cable. The PSU cable is impossible to detach from the PSU. If you mean to replace the PSU - I don't happen to have spare PSU units sitting around.
Thanks
