HP Pavilion 590-p0044
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello.  I've been unable to find a list of compatible processor upgrades for my HP Pavilion 590-p0044 under the specs for this PC.  It currently has an AMD Ryzen 5 2400G 3.6 GHz with Radeon Vega Graphics installed.  If someone could point me in the right direction to find this information, it would be most appreciated.  Have a good day, Jeff C.

@jcsundew,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

No worries, you have come to the right place, where we endeavor to point people in the right direction.

You can upgrade your PC with the Ryzen 7 2700 (8-Cores, 16-Threads, 3.20 GHz up to 4.10 GHz, 65-watt TDP).  Mind you, not the Ryzen 7 2700X.

You can purchase one of these processors online, such as via this trusted eBay Seller for $75: https://www.ebay.com/itm/135580765653?_skw=Ryzen+7+2700&itmmeta=01JP2W4CQH7WNEH945F2ZBXSFP&hash=item....

Hello.  Thank you for the welcome and quick response.  Sounds like I'd have to install a graphics card with that particular processor.  Hoping to find one that's integrated, so I don't have to.  Thanks again.  Have a great day, Jeff C.

@jcsundew,

There are no Ryzen upgrades available for your PC with integrated graphics.

Honestly, seems to me a small price to pay adding a graphics card to your system to accommodate having a faster processor...

For example, for just $40, you can buy an RX 550 via eBay (such as this purchase example via a trusted eBay Seller: AMD Radeon RX 550 2GB Video Card DisplayPort Dell YRDRX | eBay).

Hello.  Thanks for your input and information regarding the graphics card.  I'm away from the PC right now.  Guess I'd have to figure out if that card would fit in the case.  It sounds like I'd also have to upgrade the power supply as well, and find one small enough that would also fit in the case...  Thanks again.

Have a good day,

Jeff C.

@jcsundew,

You are correct.  If your PC is powered by an anemic 180-watt power supply (likely with p/n: L08660-800), you'll have to upgrade your power supply, say to a 310-watt unit, which has p/n: L10875-800.  You can purchase one of these power supplies starting for less than $27: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=HP+L10875-800+&_sacat=0&_from=R40&_sop=15&rt=nc&LH_PrefLoc=1.

I referenced an RX 550, because they are very affordable, and this graphics card has about the same graphics performance as the Radeon RX Vega 11 iGPU.  Since your PC is a mini tower (MT format), you'll need a standard graphics card bracket (not the low-profile bracket as shown in the eBay link I shared) in order to fit it in your PC.

Most RX 550 cards are smaller sized and will fit in your PC.

Hello.  Thanks for the response and information.  Before I got your response, I was digging around for information on the power supply upgrade.  I had a difficult time finding info for this specific PC.  In an article in the HP forum someone mentioned that for HP 590 chassis, the power supply could be upgraded to HP part L04618-800.  Is that compatible?

Still searching for a new RX550 graphics card that would work...  This PC's RAM is DDR4.  Some of the descriptions of the RX550 mention that the card  has 2 or 4 GB GDDR5.  Would this be a problem?

Thanks for your help.

Have a great day,

Jeff

@jcsundew,

That is correct: the 400-watt power supply with p/n: L04618-800 is indeed compatible with your PC.

The VRAM in a graphics card operates autonomously from your PC and it doesn't matter whether it is GDDR3, GDDR4, GDDR5, GDDR6, GDDR6X, or GDDR7.

@jcsundew,

You are more than welcome -it was a privilege to assist you!

In the meanwhile, I found another compatible processor for your Sunflower motherboard (SSID: 8433) since my first post, namely the Ryzen 7 2700X, a processor I initially dismissed as being compatible, but lo and behold, I found this CPU installed in a Sunflower motherboard in a different PC: an HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop 690-0xxx: HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop 690-0xxx Performance Results - UserBenchmark.

I thought you would find this interesting, since a Ryzen 7 2700X has a higher base speed (3.70 GHz) than a Ryzen 7 2700 (3.20 GHz), and a higher "Boost" speed (4.35 GHz) vs. 4.10 GHz!

Kindest Regards,
