My laptop keeps showing the hard disk 3F0 boot device not found error page. I always attempt to fix it, but nothing works and then a while later, my pc is running like nothing happens. This has been occurring over and over and at random times. I am a college student who needs a laptop so I can complete exams and labs, but the whole laptop will randomly restart and then show this screen in the middle of me working. I also think it might be affecting my ability to download as I've tried to download hp support software, and it will not work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I do not want to have to buy a new laptop. Thank you

Hi @macncheese123,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I understand how disruptive this is, especially when you need your laptop for college exams and lab work. The 3F0 Boot Device Not Found error means the system cannot detect a bootable drive at that moment. Since the laptop sometimes starts working normally again, we should check the drive's health before attempting further repairs.
Could you please confirm a few details?
- What is the exact model of your laptop?
- Do you know whether your laptop has an SSD or a traditional hard drive?
- Have you run the storage test in HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI, and if so, did it pass or show a failure ID?
Check the storage drive
If you have not already run the test, please follow these steps:
- Turn off the laptop.
- Turn it on and immediately press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
- Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
- Select Component Tests > Storage (the menu may vary by model) and run the available storage test.
- If the test reports a failure, please share the failure code and Failure ID.
Because the error keeps recurring, please back up your important college files as soon as the laptop starts successfully. If the drive is failing intermittently, continued use could put your data at risk. Avoid reinstalling Windows or formatting the drive until your files are backed up.
Once you share the laptop model and storage test results, we can determine the next appropriate step without assuming that you need to buy a new laptop.
